Smithers, Terrence

Terrence Smithers, BA, CPRP, CRPS, ITE has a rich history of professional and personal experiences of recovery. Finding his own recovery, first from substance use challenges followed by several mental health diagnoses. With BA’s in English/Psychology, Theater Arts and Secondary Education, Mr. Smithers entered the world of Behavioral Healthcare serving as a Therapist, CADAC, NCADAC, Certified Relapse Prevention Specialist, Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation   Practitioner and Certified Trainer of Trainers for the US CDC and Health Education Coordinator specializing in substance use challenges and HIV/AIDS education & prevention over a span of 25 years.

With over 10 years of co-occurring recovery, Mr. Smithers has been with RI International (Formerly Recovery Innovations) since 2006, initially as a Peer Support Specialist supporting individuals in developing self-directed recovery plans. He was invited in to the Peer Support Training classroom as a peer support class assistant and matured into the primary trainer for Peer Employment and other recovery trainings for Phoenix. Mr. Smithers was asked by RI International to move to Cambridge, England for a period of time to develop and train a Peer
Workforce for one of the National Health Service Behavioral Health Trusts. He has since returned to England on a regular basis to train and consult for the Trust and other entities. 

Currently Mr. Smithers is serving as the Manager of Training Development and a Consultant for RI Consulting (formerly Recovery Opportunity Center). He has been an author and co-author of several recovery trainings including Peer Employment Training, Making Recovery Real and Facilitating Learning. He has been a presenter & speaker at the Alternatives, USPRA, iNAPS, CODIAC, San Francisco Dignity Conference, Pennsylvania Psychiatric Rehabilitation Conferences as well as the CMHS Annual Retreat in Ontario Canada and the UK National Recovery Conference.
