Dortch, Althea

My name is Althea Dortch and I am a junior in the Social Work Program at Winston-Salem State University. I am a Certified Peer Support Specialist employed at Insight Human Services for the last seven years. I am currently under clinical supervision, on the job training, for the twelve core functions of substance abuse. I have also acquired multiple training hours that are substance abuse specific. Skills that I have acquired are: motivational interviewing, ethics/confidentiality, North Carolina Interventions, and optimizing group therapy.

My three year goal is to obtain my MSW and open a women’s transitional house. This transitional house is for women that are discharged from substance abuse treatment centers. The structured housing will implement various life skills such as, empowerment, 12 step meetings, job search, and education.
