The Job

Carteret County Government’s new Post Overdose Response Team (PORT) is seeking to fill a Certified Peer Support Specialist role.  Do you have a desire to assist in the prevention of overdose fatalities in the community?  Are you a compassionate & professional individual who has experience in community service and working with families in crisis?  Then, a Certified Peer Support Specialist position may be the role for you! 

The Location

PSS-Harm Reduction Community Navigator

The primary role of the Harm Reduction Community Navigator (HRed CN) is to engage WNCAP syringe services program clients by creating and maintaining meaningful peer relationships while utilizing healthy boundaries.  The HRed CN must be comfortable around people who use drugs and injection equipment, including needles, and, if relevant, have a minimum of 12 months of active substance use recovery. Qualified candidates must have a demonstrated understanding of the principles of Harm Reduction and one of the following:

  • North Carolina Peer Support Specialist Certification; or
  • Eligibility for North Carolina Peer Support Specialist Certification with willingness to complete certification within a specified timeframe upon hire.
