Kat Thomas has been a NC Certified Peer Support Specialist since 2016; Recovery Coach since 2016; and National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist since 2019.  Kat has 24 years in recovery from substance use disorder. Kat works with homeless men and women in Wake County who have substance use disorders and behavioral health issues. She has been working at Healing Transitions for 21 years where she has spent her time connecting individuals with resources in the county such as a homeless primary care provider, LME behavioral health providers, and ID clinic if needed. Healing Transitions has a peer run program based on 12-step mutual aid recovery. Within their campuses, they also have a non-medical detox unit that is open 24/7. Kat uses her Peer Support Specialist skills and training to assist participants as they go through the recovery program, and helps connect them to the resources that enable them to make better choices for their healthcare needs. Kat has been a member of the workgroup for the past 5 years.
