About the Position

Performs intermediate skilled human support work coordinating public health education programs, and related work as apparent or assigned.   Work is performed under the limited supervision of the assigned supervisor.

Job Duties

 

  • Identifies all resources, community-based programs and community support systems that can assist individuals with substance use disorders.
  • Responds to community referrals and assists individuals in their treatment goals and provides recovery support.
  • Administers substance abuse prevention programs.
  • Coordinates and facilitates recovery support services in Dare County.
  • Conducts in-reach service prior to re-entry into the community with inmates with substance abuse related crimes.
  • Collaborates and supports the Syringe Exchange Program in Dare County.
  • Presents current work outcomes to stakeholders and community as requested.
  • Attending local task force partner collaboration meetings and trainings.
  • Implements evidence-based curriculums in the community and the detention center.
  • Partners with community agencies on substance abuse initiatives.
  • Participates in community education and outreach.
  • Performs other assigned duties.

 

Position Qualifications

 

  • Thorough knowledge of the functions of community health agencies.
  • Thorough knowledge of methods and techniques used in preparing and disseminating educational information and programs.
  • Through knowledge of techniques involved in preparing graphic materials, exhibits and visual aids.
  • Ability to present ideas effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public in a diverse range of clientele, educational and community organizations, professionals. and associates.

 

Education, Experience and Supplemental Information

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Moderate experience in a related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Obtain North Carolina Peer Support Specialist Certification within one year of hire  (requires minimum one year of lived experience).
  • Valid driver’s license.
