Position Summary:

The Peer Support Specialist will use their personal lived experience with recovery (mental health, substance use, domestic violence, trauma, or other challenges) to provide mentorship, advocacy, and support to individuals working toward personal wellness goals. In this role, you’ll share your story in an empowering way, promote recovery-oriented values, and assist clients in building skills, resources, and confidence to lead meaningful lives.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide peer-to-peer support, mentoring, and encouragement to individuals in recovery.
  • Use lived experience to build trust and foster supportive, nonjudgmental relationships.
  • Assist individuals in developing personal recovery plans and accessing community resources.
  • Facilitate support groups, workshops, or one-on-one peer sessions as assigned.
  • Promote self-advocacy and empower individuals to make informed choices about their recovery.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, and other service providers as part of a care team.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided.
  • Uphold ethical standards, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
  • Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and team meetings.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Current NC Certified Peer Support Specialist(CPSS) certification required.
  • Lived experience with recovery from mental health challenges, substance use, or related life experiences.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to share personal recovery story in a way that inspires hope and empowerment.
  • Familiarity with community resources and recovery supports preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Basic computer and documentation skills.
  • Prior experience in peer support or recovery-focused work preferred.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.

 

 

Compensation:

Starting at $20/hour
