V.O.I.C.E. Therapeutic Solutions is seeking a Wake County Lead Peer Support Specialist. This role is designed for someone with lived or professional experience of opioid use disorder, strong connections in the recovery community, and a proven track record in peer support. This position includes structured opportunities to strengthen skills in service coordination, documentation, team support, and other functions that prepare staff for increased responsibility within behavioral health service delivery.

PLEASE NOTE BEFORE APPLYING: Applicants must live in Wake County, know Wake County recovery support services, and have 2–3 years of experience after completing the NC Peer Support Certification.

Responsibilities and Duties

Provide mentorship and guidance to apprentices, answering questions and offering support.
Provide peer support services in the community, promoting recovery, wellness, and self-determination.
Teach and model problem-solving, coping, and life skills aligned with the Eight Dimensions of Wellness
Model professional boundaries, ethical practice, and trauma-informed engagement.
Offer shadowing opportunities and hands-on learning experiences to help apprentices build confidence and skills.
Assist with identifying training needs and help develop or recommend relevant trainings.
Participate in mentor check-ins, training sessions, and debrief meetings.
Collaborate with clinical supervisors to monitor apprentice progress and provide feedback.
Engage in community outreach to strengthen recovery networks, build partnerships, and connect individuals to resources.
Promote harm reduction principles and cultural humility when supporting individuals affected by OUD.
Serve as a liaison with agencies serving individuals with OUD to enhance collaboration and referral pathways.
Help identify gaps in community resources and support efforts to expand access for individuals in recovery.
Support onboarding of new hires entering the peer support team
Assist with transitions for new clients entering services or requesting services
Ensure required client signatures and documentation are completed
Provide coverage or fill-in support when assigned peers are out of office
Participate in apprenticeship activities designed to prepare for future Qualified Professional role
Shadow and observe QP-level responsibilities
Support selected QP tasks under supervision
Build competency in documentation, care coordination, service oversight, and workflow management
Help maintain communication between peer staff and supervisors


Education, Experience and Certifications

North Carolina Peer Support Specialist Certification (required).
Associate degree required or active enrollment in an A.A.S. in Social and Human Services program (preferred).
Lived experience with opioid use disorder (preferred).
At least 3 years of professional experience supporting individuals impacted by substance use and/or opioid use disorder (OUD), gained through peer support, community engagement, employment, or similar volunteer roles.
Experience working with individuals impacted by opioid use disorder, recovery systems, or behavioral health services preferred
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Connected within the recovery and peer support community.
Reliable transportation required.
