Status message

Effective April 1, the NCCPSS Program will transition to an ONLINE-ONLY APPLICATION PROCESS. Certification and recertification applications must be submitted using the ONLINE portal. Mailed (paper) applications will not be accepted. We encourage all applicants to create an account first and access the online application now to help avoid application processing delays. Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Certified Peer Support Specialist to join our team. Ideal candidate must have at least 2 years prior experience in a similar role. As a Certified Peer Support Specialist, you will provide support and guidance to individuals with mental health challenges, utilizing your own lived experience to inspire hope and promote recovery. You must have reliable transportation. Your role will involve assisting clients in navigating the mental health system, providing counseling, and offering mentorship to help them achieve their goals. Responsibilities:

- Establish rapport and build trusting relationships with clients based on shared experiences

- Provide individualized support and advocacy to clients in their recovery journey

- Assist clients in developing coping skills and strategies for managing mental health challenges

- Conduct assessments to identify client needs and develop personalized recovery plans

- Facilitate group therapy sessions and support groups

- Collaborate with other members of the treatment team to coordinate care for clients

- Utilize crisis intervention techniques when necessary

- Maintain accurate and confidential client records

Experience:

-  North Carolina Certification as a Peer Specialist - Required

- Experience working in the mental health field - preferred

- Knowledge of mental health counseling techniques and principles

- Familiarity with systems involved in mental health treatment (e.g., hospitals, community resources)

- Understanding of addiction counseling and its impact on mental health

- Strong knowledge of social work practices and principles

- Ability to effectively utilize motivational interviewing techniques

- Experience in crisis management and intervention

- Knowledge of behavioral health services and resources

- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

- Ability to provide mentorship and support to individuals in need.

Job Types: Contract

Pay: $18.42 - $20.00 per hour

Schedule:

 

  • Choose your own hours
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
