Series Description: The North Carolina Peer Support Specialist (NCCPSS) Program, in collaboration with Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS), is pleased to offer free training to CPSS. These webinars will focus on a variety of topics related to Peer Support. The contact hours can be used for the additional training required for recertification.

Modality: These series consist of monthly webinars. Each webinar will be a 1.5-hour presentation. These webinars will be live virtual training via Zoom.

Registration: Free, but participants must pre-register for this training. We will confirm your registration by email.

Target Audience: NC Certified Peer Support Specialists seeking additional training hours for certification or recertification.

When: All training sessions will occur from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm

Confirmation Notices and Certificates of Completion:
After the training concludes, participants will receive an email notifying them of the process and the manner in which they will gain access to the evaluation and the certificate of completion for the training. The Certificate of Completion email will go within 5 business days after the training concludes to participants who met the time requirement listed in the continuing education policy based on the length of the training.

NCCPSS Webinars

This series will provide 1.5 hours of training (per webinar) needed for Peers to earn additional training hours needed for certification or recertification, unless stated otherwise.

 

Dorel Clayton

Dorel is a Certified Peer Support Specialist and Community Health professional with practical, life-changing experience, who works to assist individuals with chemical dependency, mental health disorders, and other stressors. Dorel has expertise that professional training cannot replicate. He has the mentality and ability to reach his peers, aiding with articulating recovery goals, learning and practicing new skills, helping with monitoring progress, assisting in treatment, modeling effective coping techniques, and implementing self-help strategies based on his own RE-Entry and Recovery experience. He also assists individuals with increasing self-advocacy to obtain necessary and effective services. Dorel spent 5 years working on a crisis unit and has been trained in health care counseling and peer support. He received certification as a facilitator and has trained certified and accredited curriculums for the past 8 years, as well as being well-versed in WRAP® intervention. Dorel’s experience, compassion, and commitment to Re-Entry and Recovery ensure his dedication to preparing quality professionals who desire to work in the field of Community Health Work.

Pamela Goodine

Pamela Goodine is a NC Certified Peer Support Specialist. In pursuing her recovery, she became resilient embracing natural and spiritual support. In doing so, she turned her potential into a reality of hope that afforded her the opportunities of becoming a Ordained Minister, Certified Peer Support Specialist Trainer, Forensic Peer Support Trainer, Advanced Level WRAP Facilitator, Emotional CPR educator, Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute Ambassador. She is a graduate of Leadership Fellows Academy, NAMI NW Piedmont Board member, State Peer to Peer Facilitator, Connection Recovery Support Group Leader and received her certificate of Christian Counselor from Liberty University. After years of recovery and acquiring countless advanced levels of trainings, Pamela shared her successful strategies on self advocacy and utilizing community links, founding "The Journey Continues Peers Supporting Peers" a peer run organization that prepares individuals to provide supportive services to those who are beginning their recovery journey, seeking support to improve their wellness, recovery and gain employment. She was awarded the NC HOPE 2019 Peer Support Specialist of the Year award and received proclamations from the State of NC Governor - Roy Cooper , City of Winston Salem Mayor- Allen Joines and The Forsyth County Commissioners in 2018 declaring October as Peer Support Awareness Month and also received the Steve Jordan award by NAMI in 2021, which is given to an individual or individuals within the mental health community who have been particularly effective innovators and advocates in the development of services or support for people living with mental illness and their families.

Bodi Bodenhamer

Bodi Bodenhamer is Lead Peer Support Specialist at the UNC OASIS clinic in Chapel Hill, NC. They have worked in peer support since 2016, primarily with adolescents and young adults experiencing medical treatment for psychosis, with whom they share similar lived experience. They also have lifelong experience with creating 2D art and storytelling, which are the cornerstones of their own recovery. Bodi has provided a variety of LGBTQIA2+ ally awareness and sensitivity trainings across NC, for mental health professionals, K-12 public school educators, nurses, and counselors, as well as volunteer staff for museums and community spaces. Bodi believes in the critical nature of community connectivity in the context of recovery, and strives to grow those connections in order to show their strength and resilience and success where other, traditional modalities and avenues of treatment fail.
