Asiya Williams’ journey has been shaped by struggles with eating disorders, mental health challenges, substance misuse, and multiple institutionalizations. Growing up in Eastern North Carolina, she often felt trapped in a cycle of self-destruction, struggling to break free from the emotional pain. It wasn't until she became involved in Peer Support that she began to truly understand the power of shared experience and the importance of offering hope and solidarity to others facing similar challenges. Through her work as a NC Certified Peer Support Specialist, she has learned that healing is most effective when we support each other, rather than navigating recovery alone.

Since 2020, Asiya has participated as a Qualified Professional in agencies and her community, facilitating prevention and wellness programs like the Wellness Recovery Action Plan, state-approved curriculums, and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. These certifications have allowed her to help individuals navigate their recovery journeys in a holistic way, addressing mental, emotional, and physical health. Asiya believes in empowering others by providing the resources they need to become the best versions of themselves, using her own lived experiences to guide and support them.

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together,” embodies the essence of Asiya’s work. She is deeply committed to community solidarity, understanding that healing happens when we walk together in mutual support. Her passion lies in offering the empathy, understanding, and resources that allow individuals to embrace their whole selves, acknowledge their challenges, and ultimately thrive. “Each day, I am honored to help others find their way forward, knowing that transformation and recovery are possible when we stand united in our efforts."
