As a Peer Support Specialist (PSS), you’ll use your lived experience to provide compassionate, individualized support and advocacy for clients in your chosen North Carolina county.
Key Responsibilities:
Peer Support:
Provide one-on-one support by sharing your recovery journey to inspire hope and motivation.
Assist clients in creating personalized recovery goals and actionable plans.
Client Advocacy:
Advocate for clients’ preferences and needs within the treatment team.
Empower clients to self-advocate and connect with community resources.
Resource Navigation:
Help clients access housing, employment, education, healthcare, and other essential services.
Provide information and appropriate referrals.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate, timely records of client interactions and progress in our HR system.
Report significant changes in client status to the clinical team.
Clock in and out for every peer support session provided.
Team Collaboration:
Participate in case reviews, staff meetings, and ongoing training sessions.
Work closely with clinical staff to ensure integrated care.
Professional Development:
Engage in continuous learning to maintain certifications and enhance skills.
Stay current on peer support best practices and recovery trends.

Qualifications:
Lived Experience:
Personal lived experience with mental health and/or substance use disorder and sustained recovery.
Ability to share your story in a supportive and motivating way.
Certification & Training:
North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (PSS) certification required.
Completion of all required peer support trainings prior to onboarding.
Experience Levels & Pay:
Starting at $20–$25/hour: minimum 2 years verifiable experience, all trainings complete, Qualified Professional (QP).
Up to $30/hour: minimum 3 years verifiable experience, all trainings complete, QP and PSS Supervisor.
Skills & Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Empathy, patience, and non-judgmental approach.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
Additional Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Ability to work within the selected North Carolina county.
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
