What is a North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist
Peer Support Specialists are individuals with lived experience who provide personalized one-on-one and group recovery services. CPSS help members set and achieve their personal recovery goals.
Role of a NCPSS:
Assist members in navigating community resources, housing, employment, education, healthcare, transportation, and benefits. They also provide education on coping strategies, relapse prevention, and resources that support long-term recovery and personal growth.
Peer supporters deliver services in homes, community settings, and other approved locations. Their work focuses on supporting members in recovery, addressing homelessness, navigating the justice system, developing life skills, building confidence, and fostering independence within their communities.
Work Environment/Location:
NC 30-40 mile radius of Counties – Cabarrus, Rowan, Forsyth
- Members' homes
- Community locations
- Healthcare and behavioral health offices
- Other approved service settings, including the home office
Requirements:
- Active NC Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) certification
- Lived experience in recovery from a mental health and/or substance use disorder
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid North Carolina driver's license
- Reliable transportation with current automobile insurance
- Ability to travel throughout the assigned service area
- Proficient computer and documentation skills
- Strong time management and organizational abilities
