Greater Outreach Services, Inc. is seeking compassionate, dependable Certified Peer Support Specialists to join our growing behavioral health team in Murphy, NC.
The Peer Support Specialist will use personal lived experience with mental health or substance use recovery to provide encouragement, advocacy, skill-building, resource connection, and recovery-focused support to individuals receiving services.
Primary Responsibilities
- Build supportive, recovery-focused relationships with individuals served
- Share lived experience appropriately to promote hope and self-advocacy
- Assist individuals with identifying recovery goals and developing practical skills
- Connect individuals with community resources, healthcare providers, housing, employment, education, and other supports
- Support community engagement and successful participation in services
- Complete required service documentation accurately and on time
- Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards
- Participate in supervision, team meetings, training, and service planning
Minimum Qualifications
- Current North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist certification
- Personal lived experience with mental health or substance use recovery
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to complete documentation within required timeframes
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
- Ability to successfully complete required background and driving-record checks
- Familiarity with Murphy, Cherokee County, and surrounding community resources is preferred
