Position Summary
Catawba County Emergency Services is recruiting a dedicated, well-experienced Peer Support Specialist to join our dynamic EMS Post Overdose Response Team (PORT), named REACH (Resource for Addiction and Community Health). This position uses personal lived experience and recovery knowledge to support individuals affected by substance use and mental health challenges through REACH 911 responses, active overdose responses, follow-up visits, and community referrals.
**Must have NC Peer Support Certificate**
A Peer Support Specialist is a mental health professional who provides support, guidance, and encouragement to individuals who are struggling with mental health challenges. Their role is unique in that they have personal experience living with a mental health condition themselves, which allows them to offer empathy, understanding, and insight from a lived experience perspective.
The Job
Carteret County Government’s Post Overdose Response Team (PORT) is seeking to fill a full time Certified Peer Support Specialist role. Do you have a desire to assist in the prevention of overdose fatalities in the community? Are you a compassionate & professional individual who has experience in community service and working with families in crisis? Then, a Certified Peer Support Specialist position may be the role for you!
The Location
Office location is in Morehead City, NC.
Pay: $17.00
Schedule: 40 hours per week- flexible scheduled with some evening and weekend hours depending on needs of those served
Job Responsibilities
Modeling effective coping and self-help techniques to individuals
Providing empowerment skills and support in successful recovery living
Assisting individuals in finding resources, advising of processes, and encouraging follow through with proposed resolutions, locating social activities, or provide other assistance as needed
Location: Caldwell County, NC (some travel to surrounding counties required)
Salary: $47,000 - $52,000 annually, based on experience
Schedule: Primarily Monday-Friday with flexibility for occasional evenings and weekends. No on-call responsibilities.

Substance Use Recovery Specialist
Full-time, salaried, non-exempt
Salary: $50,000/ year
Benefits: QSEHRA health benefit, paid time off (16 paid holidays, 10 sick days per year, and a minimum of two weeks of vacation per year), budget for annual professional development
