NCCPSS EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

CERTIFIED OLDER ADULTS PEER SPECIALIST (COAPS) DESIGNATION

The NCCPSS Program offers the CAOPS Designation to support older adults struggling with mental health and substance use challenges. The COAPS designation strengthens the workforce's capacity to meet the health and wellness needs of older adults with behavioral health issues who are aging but whose health is often neglected to improve their quality of life. Individuals interested in this designation must be at least 50 years of age.

Interested CPSS must complete the North Carolina Certified Older Adult Peer Specialist (COAPS) Training through the North Carolina Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Use Services (DMH/DD/SUS).

ETHICS TRAINING POLICY
Effective July 1, 2024 the NCCPSS Program will require the completion of three (3) hours of Ethics Training for certification and recertification as follows:
  • New Applicants applying for certification must submit 3 hours of ethics training, which will be counted towards the 20 additional hours of training required for certification.
  • Current CPSS recertifying must submit 3 hours (1.5 hours every year) of ethics training, which will be counted towards the 20 additional hours of training required for recertification.

NCCPSS PROGRAM ADDITIONAL TRAINING RESOURCES

Reminder that the PSS Program has added to the list of training on the Springboard website the "Understanding and Preventing Suicide: What You Can Do To Help" course pre-recorded for a small fee.  This training counts towards the 20 additional hours of required training

Additionally, Pregnancy and Opioid Exposure: A Training Course to Increase Understanding at Four Key Points of Intervention and Reproductive Life Planning for Substance Use Disorder Services have been addedThese are free, online, self-paced, training courses.
 
 

ONLINE APPLICATIONS

The NCCPSS Program encourages applicants to submit their application using the ONLINE submission portal. Due to the volume of applications submitted through the mail, the NCCPSS Program is adjusting the processing time for mail applications from 5-7 business days to 7-10 business days. If you want your application processed within 3-5 business days, submit it using the ONLINE portal.
