Effective April 1, the NCCPSS Program will transition to an ONLINE-ONLY APPLICATION PROCESS. Certification and recertification applications must be submitted using the ONLINE portal. Mailed (paper) applications will not be accepted. We encourage all applicants to create an account first and access the online application now to help avoid application processing delays. Job description

Job Summary
The Certified Peer Specialist plays a vital role in supporting individuals in their recovery journey from mental health and substance use challenges. This position involves using personal experiences to inspire hope and provide guidance to peers, fostering a supportive environment that promotes empowerment and self-determination. The Certified Peer Specialist will work collaboratively with clients, offering resources, encouragement, and practical strategies to navigate their recovery process.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one support and mentoring to individuals facing mental health and addiction challenges.
  • Utilize personal recovery experiences to build rapport and trust with clients.
  • Assist clients in setting personal goals and developing individualized recovery plans.
  • Facilitate sessions focused on skill-building, coping strategies, and shared experiences.
  • Offer crisis intervention support as needed, employing effective crisis management techniques.
  • Educate clients about available resources within the behavioral health system.
  • Advocate for clients' needs within various systems, including healthcare and community services.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions and progress in accordance with organizational policies.

Skills

  • Strong background in social work or related fields.
  • Proficient in mentoring individuals through their recovery journeys.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health systems and resources available for clients.
  • Expertise in crisis management and intervention techniques.
  • Familiarity with mental health counseling practices and addiction counseling methodologies.
  • Ability to conduct motivational interviewing to encourage client engagement and commitment to recovery.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a compassionate approach to client interactions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases effectively.

This role is essential for fostering a supportive community that empowers individuals on their path to recovery.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
