What we're seeking
We're looking for highly organized, motivated, and empathetic young adults who want to help the next generation feel their best. As a Somethings Mentor, you will be able to help teenagers navigate the difficulties of their adolescent years and enable them to live their happiest, healthiest life.
Key qualifications
- Must have a current NCCPSS license, a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) license in any other state, or willingness to complete certification with us
- Lived experience with mental health challenges and willingness to share your personal story while helping others
- Ability to commit to the working schedule outlined below:
- Mon - Thurs: 4:30 PM -10 PM EST
- Fri: 4:30 - 7 PM EST
- Have some experience working in crisis intervention and de-escalation or comfort learning these skills
- A growth mindset and willingness to adjust with feedback
- Highly organized and tech-savvy
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Enrolled in or completed a 4-year college, 2-year program, or trade school
- Fluent in English (other languages gladly welcomed!)
What we offer you
- $20/HR, plus monthly bonuses of $60 for each teen above 20 you successfully keep engaged in the program
- Measured by 5+ days of unique app engagement per month
- 24.5 hours per week across 5 days
- 3 days off a month, including one day of PTO
- Free initial training & certification as a Certified Peer Specialist, if needed, with further educational opportunities

Our hiring process:
- Submit your written application AND submit your video interview
- We ask all candidates to complete the written and video portions simultaneously so that we can keep our interview process as condensed and efficient as possible for our candidates
- If you pass the initial screen, you will be invited to interview with our team (approx. 45mins), including a text-based roleplay that simulates Mentor text-based support on the Somethings platform
- If you pass the live interview round, you'll be invited to begin completing the required courses to submit for a CPS Certificate, if needed
- You will then complete a final role play with members of our Lead Mentor team as a final evaluation on crisis escalation and other high-acuity topics
- Prep material will be provided in advance of this session
- After you complete the workshop, you will be sent a formal offer, complete internal training and onboarding tasks

Once all of your internal training and onboarding is complete, you will be activated as a Mentor and start working directly with teens!
Please note:
- We have extremely high standards for Mentors, less than 10% of applicants are accepted.
- Your time from applying to starting can vary greatly depending on many variables, several of which are out of our control. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding.
- Those who already hold NCCPS/CPS credentials will likely have an expedited experience, beginning with the Lead Mentor 1:1s.
Tech requirements:
- Reliable internet connection with a minimum of 10 Mbps for download speed and 5 Mbps for upload speed. Use https://www.speedtest.net/ to check your connection
- High-quality camera, headphones/microphone
- Private, quiet working space
- Strong light source
- Clean, uncluttered background
These tech requirements must be met by the time you start working with teens. You must be able to demonstrate that you have met these requirements by submitting screenshots of your internet speed, as well as videos and photos of yourself for review.
