Position Summary:
The Peer Support Specialist will use their personal lived experience with recovery (mental health, substance use,domestic violence, trauma, or other challenges) to provide mentorship, advocacy, and support to individuals working toward personal wellness goals. In this role, you will share your story in an empowering way, promote recovery-oriented values, and assist clients in building skills, resources, and confidence to lead meaningful lives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide peer-to-peer support, mentoring, and encouragement to individuals in recovery.
- Use lived experience to build trust and foster supportive, non-judgmental relationships.
- Assist individuals in developing personal recovery plans and accessing community resources.
- Facilitate support groups, workshops, or one-on-one peer sessions as assigned.
- Promote self-advocacy and empower individuals to make informed choices about their recovery.
- Collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, and other service providers as part of a care team.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided.
- Uphold ethical standards, confidentiality, and professional boundaries at all times.
- Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and team meetings.
Qualifications:
- Lived experience with recovery from mental health challenges, substance use, or related life challenges is required.
- Certification as a Peer Support Specialist (or willingness to obtain within [timeframe], if applicable).
- Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to actively listen.
- Ability to share personal recovery story in a way that inspires hope and empowerment.
- Familiarity with local community resources and recovery supports preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Basic computer and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working or volunteering in peersupport or recovery-focused settings.
Pay - Minimum $20/hour
