Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Certified Peer Support Specialist to provide recovery-oriented support to individuals facing mental health challenges and substance use disorders. As someone with lived experience in recovery, you will serve as a mentor, advocate, and resource, helping clients navigate their personal recovery journeys while promoting hope and empowerment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain supportive relationships with individuals in recovery.
- Share personal recovery experiences to inspire and empower clients.
- Assist individuals in developing personal recovery goals and action plans.
- Support clients in accessing community resources, services, and treatment options.
- Encourage self-advocacy and provide guidance in navigating healthcare and social services.
- Facilitate peer support groups, workshops, and recovery-oriented activities.
- Collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, and other professionals to support holistic care.
- Document interactions and progress while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Promote a culture of wellness, self-care, and resilience among peers.
- Advocate for policies and practices that support recovery-oriented care.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Certification: Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) in North Carolina.
- Lived Experience: Personal experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery required.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require additional education or training).
- Skills: Strong communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with recovery principles, peer support practices, and local resources.
- Other Requirements: Ability to pass background checks and meet any other employer-specific criteria.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a behavioral health or community support setting.
Working Conditions:
- Work may be conducted in various settings, including community centers, clinics, or client homes.
- Flexible scheduling may be required, including evenings or weekends.
- Some travel may be necessary to support clients in different locations.
