Vernell is a native New Yorker born and raised in the South Bronx’s. She is married to a wonderful and supportive husband Reggie Mackie who supports all her dreams. She has two grown children and two granddaughters who she loves dearly. Vernell has become inspired by what others told her she could not do. Being labeled with a learning disability, PTSD, Anxiety and Depression she surpassed all that had her bond. She is a survivor and advocate of domestic violence a Certified Peer Support Specialist, CPR& BLS, Suicide Prevention instructor, WHAM facilitator; Whole Health Action Management, Child Family Treatment Team Facilitator, Professional Certified Life Coach, Life Skill Facilitator, Parent Educator and train the trainer of Best practice transitional planning for youth who exit out of residential group homes, Certified Trauma Services Specialist (CTSS). She is also a licensed and ordained minister, Ecpr Practitioner and she trains in Blood pathogen as well.
She is the published Author of Yesterday’s Pain Tomorrow’s Joy where she talks about her dark days and how it led to the joy in her life. She has also written a Journal for her book, she is the Co-author of W.O.W: Book Anthology which will be released 3/2019 Women Overcoming Through Writing 100 stories behind the story. Vernell holds an Associate Applied Science (Human Service Technology degree), Associate degree of Theology, Bachelor of Science (Human Services) from Gardner Webb University. Master’s degree in Human Services with a specialization of Social and Community services from Capella University and she is currently six classes from graduating with her 2nd Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Throughout her college journey she has been awarded scholarships and held the position of President of Human Service Club, and Ambassador throughout her college attendance where she stills hold the position with Capella University.
She has been on the dean’s list for her academic achievement. She is a current member of the following; International Crisis Intervention Team (ICIT), National Organization for Human Services (NOHS), Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA), North Carolina Parenting Education Network (NCPEN), North Carolina Mental Counselor Association (NCMHCA), Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists (ATSS). Due to her academic achievements while pursuing her counseling degree she was initiated to the national honor society of Chi Sigma Iota (CSI). Vernell has a heart to make a difference in the lives of people one day at a time.
Vernell does not just brings experience and her skills she brings her heart and allows it to connect with everyone she meets daily. She uses her life journey and makes a difference in the lives of many people no matter where she stumbles her feet. In 1993 she has received a plaque for her dedication and rendering services to families and children. She believes in everyone and works hard in helping others to achieve their goals and dreams. She is the founder of Casting Down Strongholds Transitional Housing Inc. HOPE, LLC; Helping Others Pursue Empowerment where she offers various training for individuals and companies. Created by the hands of God where she makes custom jewelry and much more. Vernell is a minister at Unity Church Charlotte where she spheres head the suicide prevention and mental health department. Vernell believes in being fully equipped with knowledge and skills in order to make a difference in the surrounding communities.
