GreenTree Peer Support Program is seeking an Executive Director for the operations of our agency according to its Mission, Vision, and Values. The Director leads according to values that honor every person’s right to respect, inclusion, and care and honor's every person's right and potential for recovery and resilience. The director demonstrates the qualities of empathy and of vision with a focus on empowering people and contributing to community solutions through peer support. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for execution of the agency mission. This includes development of staffing, programs, expansion, and capacity in alignment with the aim of promoting health, recovery, and resiliency among the GreenTree participant community. A thorough understanding of recovery-promoting engagement and practices is essential in this role.
RESPONSIBILILTIES
Leadership & Management:
● Maintain, and support GreenTree’s strong Board of Directors;
● Participate with the board in ongoing strategic processes aimed at quality peer support and responsive program development.
● Based on GreenTree’s Vision and Mission, maintain appropriate levels of staffing and infrastructure for all program needs.
● Delegate to staff program management functions, administrative functions as helpful, and targeted peer support that may arise during interactions with individuals and families.
● Give guidance to the Peer Supporter Team including supervision, mentoring, and educational support to the Leadership Team.
● Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence through data collection and review and program evaluation using input from GreenTree participants.
● Manage financial accountability through an electronic bookkeeping system using a qualified bookkeeper, annual financial audit, and regular review of expenses by the Board Treasurer, and regular financial reports to the full Board.
● Assist with Human Resources functions, including approval of time worked and leave (payroll distribution is contracted out), benefits, support and supervision by leadership team of other staff.
Advocacy and Community Relations
● Bring awareness to community stakeholders about the importance of focusing on individuals’ potential for growth and recovery.
● Educate the community leaders and stakeholders about the significant function of peer support in assisting people toward health and resilience and about its role in creating practical community solutions.
● Advocate for the rights of individuals when systemic concerns are impeding on these, including engaging with other agencies to promote understanding and seek solutions.
● Ensure GreenTree’s presence as an active participant on community coalitions and with mental health treatment community leaders to promote understanding and effective use of peer support.
Fundraising & Communications:
● Expand fundraising activities to support existing program operations and capacity expansion. Grant writing skills a plus, but not required.
● Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
● Strengthen external presence, relationships, and partnerships that may enhance potential for funding opportunities.
Planning & New Business:
● Participate with the board in ongoing strategic processes aimed at quality peer support and responsive program development. Ensure board activity aligns with the vision of the organization.
● Create and maintain a strategic plan with the Board of Directors which ensures fiscal and programmatic practices are effective and sustainable.
● Build partnerships with key community stakeholders, establishing relationships with current and potential the funders, and political and community leaders. Clear communication with county Behavioral Health section important.
● Be an external local presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of peer operated programs and community-based solutions
Role Requirements:
● Personal lived experience with the impact of ill-being and recovery related to mental health challenge, or mental health and co-existing substance use challenge. Peer support certification is a plus.
● Compassionate, empathic qualities that inspire authentic peer relationships and shared authority among staff, exemplifying servant leadership.
● Ability to convey compassion and respect when relating to GreenTree peer participants, family members, and other community members.
● Experience in wellness promotion through programmatic setting; familiarity and use of the Eight Dimensions of Wellness framework is beneficial.
● Demonstrated understanding of systems that impact lives of organization’s beneficiaries (mental health service systems, Social Security, justice system involvement, etc.)
● College degree or two years experience in human services field
● Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation, including utilization of tools recommended for Consumer Outcomes Services and Programs according to SAMHSA Best Practices.
● Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
● Success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
● Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
● Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
● Action-oriented, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
● Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
● Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
Other Qualifications:

Personal history of life-disrupting mental health, substance use, or neurodiversity related challenges and finding wellness through personal work

Familiarity or involvement with the peer support and recovery movements

Current or past experience as a peer support specialist preferred

Previous experience with business or non-profit development helpful

Experience in advocating for Mental Health and/or Substance Use Recovery
