Position Summary:
Magnolia Counseling Center is seeking a compassionate and motivated NC Certified Peer Support Specialist to provide recovery-oriented support services to individuals living with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, or re-entry from incarceration. The Peer Support Specialist will draw upon their own lived experience in recovery to inspire hope, promote personal growth, and empower others to achieve their wellness goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group peer support services in accordance with Magnolia Counseling Center and Medicaid standards.
- Use lived experience to build trust and foster recovery-centered relationships.
- Assist individuals in developing and following personalized recovery and wellness plans.
- Encourage engagement with community supports, treatment programs, and self-help groups.
- Support individuals transitioning from incarceration, treatment programs, or homelessness.
- Facilitate life-skills and coping-skills groups.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with agency and MCO (Managed Care Organization) requirements.
- Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and continuing education to maintain certification.
Qualifications:
- North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) certification required or actively in process.
- Minimum one year of sustained recovery from mental health and/or substance use challenges.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel within Eastern North Carolina.
- Basic computer proficiency for documentation and communication.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with Medicaid-funded services or community-based recovery programs.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and recovery-oriented approaches.
- Group facilitation experience.
Work Environment:
- Services provided in community, residential, and correctional settings throughout Eastern North Carolina.
- Flexible schedule with occasional evenings or weekends required.
