Welcome Future Peer Support Specialists!

 

The content of Camino’s Peer Support Specialist Training has been approved by the Behavioral Healthcare Resource Program (BHRP) and North Carolina Division of Mental Health Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services (NC DMH/DD/SAS). Peer Support Specialist Training is a 50-hour training.

Participants must be present and participate for all scheduled 50-hours in order to be considered for certification. Participants are required to participate in the trainings through lectures, group activities, role-playing and take-home activities.  

You will also be required to share your personal recovery story
Provide Proof of High School Diploma / Equivalents /college transcripts 
If you are accepted into this class you agree to complete 10 hours of required homework and prework consisting of growing your knowledge and learning about Peer Support Specialists!  I will provide this to you and explain what you need to be successful. 

Its FUN, interesting and gives you new and unique skills for your new career as a Peer Support Specialist !  I will be here to help and support you through the process of registering for this class. Together We Will Do It!

FYI:   this class is scheduled on  May 28, 2024, May 29, 2024, May 30, 2024, May 31, 2024 June1, 2024   Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday         ( Monday 27,2024 is Memorial Day -no class)

 

 In order to be able to apply for your state certification, the trainee must pass the exam at the end of the training. The trainee can request another opportunity, within a designated period of time, to re-take the exam if they do not pass the first time.

Completing the approved 50-hour course does not entitle the training participant to the CPSS certification unless they have the required lived experience of a mental health and/or substance use disorder as well as all other criteria required by the NCCPSS certification program.

Completion of this training does not guarantee that the participant will be hired as a Peer Support Specialist. The participant will be responsible to apply and seek employment with applicable providers within their communities.

 

Training topics include Role of Peer Support Specialist, Substance Abuse and Co-Occurring Disorders, Recovery Tools, Cultural Diversity, Workplace Skills, and Peer Support Code of Ethics. Maximum class size is 15 participants. Trainer attendance policy: - Participant may miss up to three hours of course time over the approved 50-hour course. - If miss more than three hours of course time, participant will be asked to reapply and pay for a future class. - Participant attendance is tracked daily, twice a day. - Participant cannot be enrolled in another training scheduled for the same dates of the approved 50-hour course. Have lived experiences in recovery from a significant mental health or substance use disorder. Have been in recovery for at least 12 consecutive months. I will then contact you to arrange a phone interview consisting of questions:

  1. Briefly (5-10 minutes) share how your lived experience has made you more resilient?
  2. 2. What would someone tell you are your biggest strengths?
  3. 3. Have you ever been given feedback on ways to do something differently? If so, what was feedback and how did you respond?
  4. 4. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being most comfortable and 1 being not at all. How comfortable are you speaking in front of a group of 10 people? How comfortable are you speaking in front of a group of 20-30 people? How comfortable are you speaking in front of a group of 40-50 people?
  5. 5. Tell us about a time when you had to stand your ground on something you felt strongly about?
  6. 6. Discuss a time when your integrity was challenged and how did you handle it

Refund Policy: This class will be cancelled due to low participation per state guidelines.
