JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose/Role
The overall goal of this position is to support the Syringe Services Program at the Buncombe County Health Department, engage individuals in the community with needed information, referrals, and supplies, and provide peer support.
Responsibilities/Tasks

Support Buncombe County Health & Human Services’ (HHS) Syringe Services Program (SSP), providing clean injection equipment, Naloxone, linkages to supportive services, communicable disease prevention education, and overdose prevention education

Provide peer support services to those who request it

Attend all organizational meetings that pertain to the SSP

Provide health care system navigation

Provide legal and behavioral health system navigation
-
Provide substance use disorder (SUD) education to local communities

Develop individual Wellness Recovery Action Programs (WRAP)

Staff a peer support staffed phone line during business hours for SSP participants and those seeking information on harm reduction.

Outreach to other community sites, such as but not limited to Adatc, Kairos West, the Haywood Street Congregation, A-Hope, First Baptist, Buncombe County Detention Center, Crestview, MH providers.

Facilitate a group and provide training that will focus on learning about the addiction model and gaining recovery and social skills.

A PSS- led group meeting for any person/family members that have been affected by addiction

Ensure supplies for the SSP are fully stocked, by periodically conducting inventory and placing new orders with HHS Operations.

Refer individuals to substance use disorder treatment, STD testing and treatment, mental health services, primary care, Hepatitis C bridge counseling, and immunizations upon request

Provide warm hand-offs to Social Determinants of Health services, including RideHealth, Pisgah Legal, Community Linkages to Care and Post-Overdose Response Team

Enter data into Overdose Reduction Sharepointe site in an accurate and timely manner

Ensure back-up to liaison for the Syringe Services Program from the hours of 12-4pm Monday-Friday in the event the Harm Reduction Lead is unavailable

Maintain peer support certification with North Carolina and all required CEU hours needed for recertification.

Possess and maintain a valid NC driver’s license and proper registration and insurance on personal vehicle.

Pay Rate: $ 23.00 Hourly
