Job Description

Objective: Housing for New Hope connects our neighbors to housing and hope. The Peer Support

Specialist will serve as a key member of the Supportive Housing team and will bring a commitment to

providing excellent supportive services to clients during their transition from homelessness to

permanent housing. The Peer Support Specialist will engage in highly individualized services in the

community and promote the self-determination and decision-making abilities to homeless individuals

Refuge Crisis Support Peer Supporter

We are looking for part-time contractor who can work independently to support individuals at our "Refuge" house who are coming from area Emergency Departments and other agencies. This job includes welcoming and hosting an individual (includes offering meals, shower, laundry, and sleep)  and assisting to link the person to the Peer Center and other resources they may need once they have rested.  Training will be provided.  This role sometimes involves going to one of the hospitals to pick up an individual who has been referred by hospital staff.  The Refuge is across the street from the Peer

Peer Support Specialist

We have immediate openings for Certified Peer Support Specialists in the Durham, Orange and Chatham County area.   We have 3-5 open positions for IMMEDIATE HIRE!!!!

The Peer Support Specialist provide individualized, recovery-focused support to persons that promotes the development of wellness self-management, personal recovery, natural supports, coping and self-advocacy skills, and the development of independent living skills for housing, employment and full community inclusion.  This is a community-based service and community-based employment.

•    Supports daily operations of emergency shelter.
•    Assist in the implementation and coordination of program activities.
•    Collaborate with team members to ensure effective program delivery.
•    Provide administrative support to program staff, including scheduling and preparing materials.
•    Conduct research and gather information to support program development and evaluation.
•    Completes an initial needs assessment and acts upon critical needs appropriately and immediately.

PSS-Harm Reduction Community Navigator

The primary role of the Harm Reduction Community Navigator (HRed CN) is to engage WNCAP syringe services program clients by creating and maintaining meaningful peer relationships while utilizing healthy boundaries.  The HRed CN must be comfortable around people who use drugs and injection equipment, including needles, and, if relevant, have a minimum of 12 months of active substance use recovery. Qualified candidates must have a demonstrated understanding of the principles of Harm Reduction and one of the following:

  • North Carolina Peer Support Specialist Certification; or
  • Eligibility for North Carolina Peer Support Specialist Certification with willingness to complete certification within a specified timeframe upon hire.
